The Penelope Pitstops have arrived 40th at the finish line! Got here at 8pm last night (Friday 17th) in true style, actually towing an SJ, so we were the ones who heyulped heyulped after all! 27 days and 7740 miles after leaving London. Waved a tearful farewell to The Beast this afternoon, she did us proud! And we really did wear pink all the way. Being touristy in Mongolia til Friday. Whoop whoop! We did it! Over and out! X

We slept in the car and it was all a bit nuts. Got there too late to find a hotel and our headlamps were not working! Decided the only course of action was to park up and open a bottle of wine! Now passing lake baikal. Stunning!

We are now in a place called kansk, which is KAHCK in russian! Mmmm say no more! So checking in to only hotel in town, shown to us by friendly locals, turn round to see 30 squaddies! Eek. Initial fear but a chivalrous bunch as carried bags to room. Vodka fumes, wow!

We like it here. Feels fresh and clean and the buildings weird mix of new and old. Car still doing well. Wont want to part with her! Jax got dodgey tummy. :-( siberia is cold!

Things just keep getting more strange. Arrived here on their City Day and had a chance encounter with governer who insisted on showing us round the city hall and introducing us to chief of police late at night. On the road to Siberia now-and It's raining...

So... Kazak very uninspiring but we do have tarmac now! Decided back to russia tomoro. Thus far stopped by fuzz 8 times but we smile sweetly, flutter the lids and still paid no bribes. Miracle! Beast good. Both no illness. Yay. X

Potholes? Think you seen one? Not until here! Roads, what roads? Been mainly off them. Boys w big car trouble but good help from v friendly locals. Beast makes comfy roadside bed!

long border cross! Kazakh v hot and largely inhabited by mozzies and camels. Had a dip in the sulphurous, radioactive caspian so may grow extra limbs soon!

Industrial hellhole, largest gas plant ever, never come here in your life. Hoping Astrakahn will be nicer. Heading to Kazakh tomorrow. Only stopped by fuzz twice & no bribes, doing well! Car's a demon but a dirty Beast! X
