This year, team A-Polo 17 are taking on the epic driving challenge that is the Mongol Rally. We will begin at GoodWood racetrack and drive 10,000+ miles across deserts, grasslands, mountain passes and rivers, before finishing in Ulan-Ude, Russia. We will have no support, and no set route, only the help of our fellow ralliers and a few friendly locals along the way. If that wasn’t hard enough, the rules also state that we must complete the rally in a “small and shit” car, so here’s hoping our 1993 Volkswagen Polo Boulevard will do the job. Sounds totally mad? Yeah, we know…

“The Mongol Rally is about getting lost, using our long neglected wits, raising shedloads of cash for charity and finishing with our vehicle in tatters and a wild grin smeared across our faces. Neither our car, nor our life, will ever be the same again”.

Support in Mind (Scotland)

Support in Mind Scotland is the charity we have personally chosen to raise money for while taking part in the Mongol Rally. Mental health is an issue that we have seen the effects of first hand and raising money for this charity is something that is close to our hearts. The aim of the charity is to support and empower anyone affected by mental illness, including family members, friends and supporters in Scotland. Some of their main priorities include: Increasing services across Scotland, particularly in rural and isolated areas Increasing national awareness and understanding of mental illness Ensuring human rights is at the heart of policy and practice so that people suffering with mental health issues, and their families, can live with dignity and respect Giving the charity members a voice to influence change they feel necessary Last year Support in Mind launched their #support1in100 campaign. In Scotland, 1 in 100 of us will suffer from a serious mental illness and 1 in 4 off us will suffer from mental ill health. With these numbers, almost everyone in Scotland will be affected, or know someone who is affected, by mental health at some point in their life. Therefore it is increasingly important that the stigma surrounding mental health is remove and awareness and understanding of the illness is increased.
