Cool Earth
This non-profit organisation works closely alongside rainforest communities to stop deforestation and its devastating impact on our planet and our climate. Their focus is putting control back into the hands of local communities who stand to lose the most from deforestation but the most to gain from its protection. I have personally seen the devastation large scale deforestation causes in the jungles of Borneo. The damage to the local communities, the local wildlife and the once beautiful land is staggering. Thankfully, the team behind Cool Earth is doing incredible work safeguarding over half a million acres of rainforest across our planet.
The Air Ambulance Service
The Air Ambulance Service operates the national Children’s Air Ambulance and the local air ambulance services for Warwickshire, Northamptonshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland. Their vision is clear and noble. They want children to grow into adults, they want adults to live longer and they want bereavement through trauma to become rare. The Children’s Air Ambulance is their national service, flying critically ill children from one hospital to another for specialist care. They are the first and only dedicated paediatric helicopter emergency transfer service in the country. The bespoke, specialist equipment on board their helicopter provides a flying intensive care unit for children. When a child is too sick to fly, they fly a specialist team to them. With flight times commonly over four times quicker than transfer by road, in many cases, time saved is a life saved.
Smiles
Smiles was established in September 2014 for adults with disabilities and run not-for-profit. Smiles was initially based from Stoke Mandeville Stadium (Home of the paralympic sports) but has since moved to Buckingham Park Community Centre to serve a wider community. The dedicated people behind this organisation play a vital role within their community. Smiles exists to assist adults with disabilities in improving fitness, coordination, physical well-being, and social skills by way of providing a variety of activities in a safe environment.
