Donde Esta la Playa? haven't posted any updates yet.
This October, six friends from South London will be taking part in the Mototaxi Junket – a two week race from one end of Peru to the other in what can only be described as a motorised sofa. In fact, the organisers of the race describe it as “a vehicle so cr*p it defies belief”.
Our journey will take us over the Andes, through the rainforest, in and out of cities and hopefully via Machu Pichu, covering a total distance of 3,500-4,500km depending on how lost we get. There is no fixed route and no support team so we will be relying entirely on our own collective (and very limited) language and mechanical skills, and a good dash of humour and camaraderie to get us through.
Why on earth are we doing this? Well, in addition to the sense of adventure and thrill of the challenge, we are raising money for two fantastic charities: the Alzheimer’s Society, which does amazing work to improve the quality of life of people affected by dementia and their families; and Cool Earth, a charity that works alongside indigenous villages to halt rainforest destruction.
We are hoping to raise over £2,000 and would greatly appreciate any support you could offer our team Dónde está la playa? and the charities. We have funded the trip ourselves so all donations will go directly to the people who need them. And for those of you who think sitting in a mototaxi for two weeks over bumpy roads isn't gruelling enough, we're also running a half marathon together in September just to torture ourselves a bit more - photos to follow!
