Richie and I are two full time professional jump jockeys that experience the highs and lows of equestrian life on a daily basis. And like many jockeys, injury and broken bones is part and parcel of every day life for us. Which is why we are embarking on this gruelling race.
In October 2011, I broke his back while competing in a National Hunt race and have undergone rehab treatment to get me back in the saddle. Richie too has suffered his fair share of breaks and falls. In June 2007, following a horse kick to the mouth Richie shattered his jaw bone completely, loosing several teeth in the process.
We are both hugely grateful to the Injured Jockey's Fund (IJF) for all the support that we have received during the past few years and so we have now decided to give something back. We are taking on the toughest horse race in the world, the Mongol Derby in a bid to raise much needed funds for fellow jockeys who will need to call on the IJF for assistance in the future.
