Team Dances with Yaks

Tashanta, Russia

On the Mongolian border waiting for it to open in the morning. The approach was amazing. The road through the Alti mountains was a real show off. Soft rounded hills with a fast running river followed by jagged pointy mountains with there heads in the clouds the high mountain plateaus where the river turns yellow and floods large parts of the plain. Did I mention the forests and deep chasm dug out by the river and the road twisting and turning for 300 miles through all this giving you great view after great view. If this road were a person I'd avoid their company, to much of a show off, but as it's just a road I love it.

Almaty, Kazakhstan

North of Almaty. Beautiful blue sky with little puffy white clouds and a wide open horizon. Little houses in the middle of a vast flat landscape a lake to my right with fishermen selling their catch on the side of the road. The steppe smells of sage and other herbs if you walk in it. This place is beautiful.@

Once you reach Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia the car is auctioned for charity. Much discomfort and a little danger are guaranteed.
