On the The Mongol Rally 2012

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia

Fun party last night. Local folk rock band and group of break-dancers. Lots of Chingis Khan vodka. Loads of drunken stories of rally. Great craic! Bit of a kick-off. Police closed club. Few guys held by cops for a while. One guy nearly arrested for head-butting an under-cover cop. 2 guys collared by cops for peeing in street then they got tazered. Great party! Flying back to blighty tomorrow. May have a few beers before plane.......

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia

Reached finish line got great welcome. Pics of car on podium. Car struggled to climb ramp onto podium. Lol. We arrived 26th out of about 300 cars! Mission accomplished. We're going to book in at the Ramada hotel (£190 per night) but decided to stay in the finish line hotel (£12 per night) with bar, pool table, and food. Now going to bar! Yeah!

Bayanhongor, Mongolia

drove into town at 5 mph with shredded tyre, knackered wheel, broken axle and roll bar dragging behind. Shocker worn through by wheel. Rear body panel hanging off. We made a bit of noise and a funny spectacle for the locals who thought it fucking hilarious. Got to 10 mtrs of garage before it finally fell to pieces. Dragged into repair bay and put on ramp. Rear end dismantled. Axle welded together put some shocks on from other team in VW polo. Put everything back together. Wrecked 2 rims so now no spares!!! Back on the road.......as we leave garage.....a puncture! Got fixed. Now back on road.

Lads did a camp repair on sump again which got us to town where it was welded and a steel plate welded to it for protection. Then on the road again the rear roll bar sprung and bent and the rear axle snapped. We jacked the rollbar back into axle and tied them together with rope and cable ties. Lasted for about 40 k (including driving at night over mountain passes) until tyre blew. (was rubbing shock absorber). waiting now for other teams to fetch recovery truck. Maybe game over.

, Altai Mountains

Epic drive but got leak in sump. 2 or 3 of the guys are mechanics so they knocked together the hole, sealed it with gaffer tape, made a gasket with gaffer tape and back on the road. Until I hit a big rock and put another bigger hole in the sump. And fucked up a wheel. One of the guys, Danny, is working on it as we camp. On a lighter note another team had their back bumper ragged off on the track. May need long tow to nearest town in morning.

hard days travelling and another banged up rim. Met a family on side of road with old lady I'll with high blood pressure. Did what we could until medic came. Two lads birthdays so two piss-ups on two nights in desert. Pit stop now. Put tubes on 2 wheels. Car starting to complain a little but generally ok. Had boot lock welded on. Exhaust a bit iffy. Roads are mental.....hundreds of miles. About 600 miles to Ulaanbaatar.

Khovd, Mongolia

raining last night and today. Epic journey on mud, gravel, and stone tracks. Crossed about 6 swollen streams and rivers and numerous water filled pot holes (big ones). Ripped the rear bumper off climbing up a steep river bank. Wonderful scenery. Gras plains gently sloping up to mountains and rocky outcrops. Awful tracks leading everywhere. Made worse by rain. Bent a wheel rim and changed wheel. In Khovd now for provisions (beer).
