Huanchaca Break
After a 400km day today from Barracha, we settled into a beautiful beachfront hotel in Huancacha just in time to enjoy watching the surfers and the sunset with a few cervesas among friends.
Living the dream
We are in the most fantastic and beautiful place in all of Peru, Huacachina, near Ica, a stunning oasis in the desert. Â Oh my god, all of the grim times in the mountains, all the blasting buses and trucks trying to run us off the road, the freezing high mountains, the cold water showers...brought us here, to perfection. Â This town is incredible! We are hanging in a cool little pub, just off the lagoon, after an afternoon spent riding dune buggies and sand-boarding on the dunes. Â The most fun I've ever had! Here with Beer and a Handful of Dust's James, Chris, Paul, Alex, and Pagogh, and we even ran into the Spanish guys from Team Torero, who also know a good place when they see it. Â We also stole their mototaxi and posed it on the sidewalk with our motos for a picture in front of our hostel.
We sat out overlooking the oasis from the bar of our hostel, eating pizza, then dipping our feet in the pool, yeah, it is really that awesome. Meeting up with friends Kelly and Cristian later this evening to set up transport for the mototaxis further up the coast, but they've both been running awesomely, thanks to Paul and Don's excellent maintenance and a healthy dose of luck. Yep, living the dream. Â Peace out, next stop, who knows? Â

finally out of Cusco!
Um yeah
So the two things Annelie made us all promise is that we wouldn't drive in the city of Cusco (except with our police escort out of town) since they are illegal there, and that we shouldn't drive at night. So when four of the Motos became stranded with blown or nearly blown engines at the top of the hill 19km from town, what did we do? Coast, with no power, no lights, and no apparent sense whatsoever through the streets of Cusco, to deliver our junk buckets to an all night mechanics shop.
The trip was truly epic, with Don steering and me leaping out to push when we werent going downhill. After our triumphant police escort through Cusco just hours earlier, the laughter of passers-by was a bit much. And then the rain started, oh my God, the downpour.

Survived the mototaxi junket and thought, damn, we gotta do another one of these things! Hop aboard the Dixie Chicken bus to Mongolia!
Team Dixie Chicken, so named because of our splendid fuzzy velour rooster hats, are from Charleston, South Carolina and believe that our lives have gotten soft, with too much cold beer, abundant fresh laundry, and a too easy navigation through the rigors of daily life.
Traveling together will be husband and wife Don and Sarah McLester. Don identifies himself as the chief mototaxi mechanic, and his only prior claim to fame is wrestling a Mongolian during the Nadaam Manly Arts festival.
