I am Lars, a quite normal guy, born and raised in Stockholm, Sweden with a love for cars, good wines and interesting food.
I would say I have always had a thing for quirky cars and that element that sticks out, and sometimes can be mistaken for a design flaw. Or what do you think of a few of my favorite car designs, the AMC Pacer, the BMW Z3 Coupe (even Pierce Brosnan looks like a hairdresser in the convertible), or the Volvo P1800ES. Had Simon Templar seen that tailgate before placing his order he surely would have opted for the full grown version of the P1800.
In my choice of tipple I quite often tend to prefer the ones with an element that stands out. The oxidized note of a pink wine or a vintage champagne, the bitterness of a well composed Negroni or the slight smokiness of a Poilly Fumé. A glass of ice cold Retsina with those calamari anyone?
Wines too soft and fruity doesn´t quite do it for me. As with life, it is those small imperfections that makes it interesting. When things go a little wrong, that´s when you start to feel alive and smile from ear to ear. That said, I am definitely no daredevil. All great undertakings needs to be thoroughly planned, just as the production of a great wine. You get that extra interesting element, that adventure anyway, due to weather conditions, the terroir or by the input of other people, sometimes very knowledgeable and sometime plain stupid.
Hence, my friend Sinisa and I have now started our planning for the 2016 Mongol Rally. Since Sinisa first told me about this event some ten years ago we have shared the dream, that one day, we too would squeeze ourselves into a small and highly unsuitable car for the drive from Goodwood outside London to Ulan Bataar in Mongolia.
Now, this adventure is about to begin, come join us…
