Cuzco, Peru
Day 14! Cuzco and the finish line! An overheating misfiring mototaxi nursed towards Cuzco. After 3000km, 3 crossings of the Andes, the Amazon rainforest and deserts, one limping legendary mile from the finish...engine explodes in a cloud of smoke...A fitting end to an epic adventure.
Abancay, Peru
Day 13. Unlucky for some, a massive fuel leak and another unplanned scenic route means we'll push for the finish line tomorrow.
Andahuaylas District, Peru
Day 12. Racing mototaxi's on the Andean plains at 14000ft, down to the desert, through the Peruvian Grand Canyon towards yet another off map detour in the pitch black night, inches from the edge of the cliff and the drop into the unknown abyss. Epic.
Ayacucho, Peru
Day 11. Off map. Off road. 13000ft driving in freezing cloud asking friendly mountain folk directions and being led from one unchartered impassable mountain pass to the next higher steeper mountain pass. Hypoxia, Hypothermia, Exhaustion and one rolled mototaxi. Final result, a Chinese dinner in town = Andes 0, Mototaxi 1!
Colcabamba District, Peru
Day 10, Epic map fail. Well and truly "off map" GPS showing position as some miles near lost. May have the fastest mototaxi in the southern hemisphere but it's just getting us lost faster! Taken refuge in a friendly local Andean town, sleeping in what appears to be a garage.
Huancayo, Peru
Day 9, new
wheel, new chain, new piston, new piston rings, new bigger faster better cylinder. 6 hours of intensive garage work and we've now got the fastest mototaxi this side of the equator! This calls for a bottle of Peruvians finest wine to celebrate.
Tarma, Peru
At 12900ft. Good Cop, Bad Cop day. Good cop gave us cocaine leafs to chew "for the altitude" bad cop demanded a bribe for the impossible crime of "speeding in a mototaxi!" One demolished chain and one rolled mototaxi. No injuries, steak and wine for dinner! Beautiful.
Huánuco Region, Peru
Day 7, Left the pouring rainforest, found some Tarmac and now enjoying a hot shower and cold beer in the Andes. Only one breakdown. Bliss. Up to 12,000ft tomorrow.
Tocache, Peru
Day 6, deep in bandito county, caked in dust, stopped at gunpoint, one fuel leak, two "protection" bribes and 3 beers later we've got half as far as we had hoped. Epic.
