Blog Entry #2: Meet "Staffan" the Beast – Our Mighty Suzuki Wagon R

Ladies and gentlemen, let us introduce you to the real star of Team Firetire’s Mongol Rally 2025 – our trusty steed, a Suzuki Wagon R.

Yes, you read that right. While some teams roll into this adventure with rugged off-road machines or old-school rally icons, we decided to take on the Mongol Rally in this tiny blue shoebox on wheels.

Why the Wagon R?

Because we believe in the underdog. This little beast has:

✅ A mighty 1.3L engine (probably producing all of 70 horsepower on a good day).

✅ Enough cargo space to fit… well, barely enough for three Swedes and their questionable life choices.

✅ The aerodynamics of a brick, ensuring we’ll never go too fast for our own safety.

✅ Character – and plenty of it.

Can it Survive the Mongol Rally?

Honestly? Probably not. But that’s the beauty of it! The Mongol Rally is all about pushing a completely inappropriate vehicle to its absolute limit, and our Wagon R is peak inappropriateness.

This car wasn’t built to cross deserts, survive potholes the size of Sweden, or ford rivers in the middle of nowhere. But will that stop us? Absolutely not. We’ll strap on extra fuel cans, tweak whatever we can, and send it straight into the unknown.

The Plan

We’ll be giving the Wagon R a proper rally transformation in the coming months, including:

Lifting it slightly (or at least pretending to).

Adding skid plates to stop sharp rocks from killing our oil pan.

Mounting a roof rack for essential supplies (like beer and spare parts).

Sticking ridiculous decals on it so it looks like it belongs in an apocalypse movie.

Follow the Journey

We’ll be documenting every ridiculous modification, every breakdown, and every sketchy roadside repair as we take this little blue warrior across continents.

Will the Suzuki Wagon R make it to Mongolia? Or will it explode in a glorious puff of blue smoke somewhere in the Kazakh steppe? Only time will tell.

Stay tuned – this is going to be one hell of a ride.

Blog Entry #1: Meet Team Firetire – Three Swedes, One Scrap Car, and a Lot of Banter

Welcome to the official blog of Team FireTire, where we’ll document our wild ride through the Mongol Rally 2025! Who are we? Glad you asked.

We’re three Swedes with a shared love for scrap cars, beer, mead, and the thrill of tackling impossible challenges. You probably don't know us already from our Twitch channel, FireTireSWE, where we tinker with engines, explain car mechanics, and engage in endless banter. Now, we’re taking that same energy on the road – from Europe to Mongolia – in the most questionable car we could find.

Meet the Crew:

- Simon (Driver, Mechanic, Chief Mead Enthusiast): The hands-on problem solver who can fix anything with duct tape and optimism. Simon is the steady hand behind the wheel and the voice of reason (most of the time).

- Linus (Navigator, Beer Specialist): With an internal compass and a thirst for adventure, they’ll keep us on the right track (and make sure the fridge is stocked with beer).

- Quincy (Moral Support, Banter Extraordinaire): Equal parts cheerleader and chaos generator, they’ll ensure there’s never a dull moment on the road.

Our vehicle? Let’s just say it’s seen better days. It’s a beat-up scrap car we’ve lovingly decorated with a Viking helmet on the roof and stickers that might (hopefully) hold the doors together. It’s far from rally-ready, but that’s part of the charm.

The Mongol Rally isn’t just about getting to Mongolia; it’s about the stories, breakdowns, and adventures along the way. From flat tires to questionable border crossings, we’re here for all of it – and we’ll be sharing every moment right here on this blog.

Stay tuned for updates, mishaps, and maybe even some car repair tips as we embark on the adventure of a lifetime. Let’s hit the road!
