We started our day by walking up to the viewpoint on top of Ella Rock. It was much hotter and steeper than anticipated. Once we'd recovered and had some lunch our time was limited and so we changed course to head straight to the south coast (instead of heading west to the Sinharaja Rainforest). We were glad to finally drive some straight, flat roads and encounter our first rainfall in SL. We've spent the evening in the unspectacular Hambantota, within striking distance of the finish line.
Full day of tuk tuk tourism through the tea region from Nuwara Eliya to Ella. Our little motor climbed all the way to Haputale and up to Lipton Seat for a 360 view of Dambatenne tea plantation and the mountain country beyond.

After checking out downtown Kandy and then the incredible Botanical Gardens yesterday we then made the perilous drive up into the Mountains to Nuwara Eliya in the dark last night. Today we're going in search of good hiking spots and fresh tea.
After waking up early to climb up Lion Rock we made the long and hectic drive into Kandy. Had a terrible night's sleep as Bena spent 2 hours hunting mosquitoes in our room. Now to head out to see the botanical gardens and some craft markets before heading on towards Ella.
After a long first day of 140km driving from Negombo, to Puttalam and onto Anuradhapura. Only one major detour, doubling back after taking the wrong road for about 20km. Slept the night under Mossie nets and now getting ready to check out some temples. #f4n
