Bas

Bas is an entrepreneur, is married to Lisette and has 2 kids. Bas is extremely active, goes on motorcycling trips to Lithuania and is a volunteer firefighter. Lisette and he often are the designated drivers when their kids have school trips. Next to that, Bas decided he had time for another hobby: the Mongol Rally. It was Bas who decided to sign up for the rally and see who wanted to come along.

Henk is the mechanic brains of our team. His girlfriend Margreet and he have a daughter of 2 ½ years old and they are currently expecting their second daughter. Yes, Henk leaves his 6 months pregnant girlfriend at home to go on a 10,000 miles rally. Being the best mechanic we have, Henk practices a lot on the car he uses to commute to and from work. The very same car we wrecked on an off-road test weekend, by the way. Henk fixed it again. Go Henk!

Menno works as an Operations Manager. Together with his girlfriend Thamar, he lives in a +100 years old house, which he is fixing / improving all the time. Menno likes to talk to people, especially in languages he doesn’t speak. Since he’s the only one with no kids, leaving home for 6 weeks is probably less difficult for him than it is for the others. Thamar is getting surgery on her knee just before Menno’s leaving though, so let’s hope she recuperates quickly enough.

Jonathan (Jona) is also an entrepreneur, working amongst others in the 3D design business. Jona knows electronics like no one else. That’s why he got to install all electrical gadgets in the car. He also knows duct-tape and can construct just about anything with that. Jona seems to be immune to cold; no one has ever seen him wear a sweater. Let’s see how he will cope with dessert heat half-way to Mongolia. His wife, Janneke, and their 2 year old daughter Carlijn will need to change the light bulbs themselves while Jona is away.
