Official First Blog!!

So...here we are!

We got our place on the Mongol Rally sorted out fairly simply, which was something we were not expecting! Had to wake up at 8am for it over here in Texas but totally worth it now! So, with our place booked, we quickly got the car we had our eye on.

 Trusty 'mechanic' Woody went down and negotiated a great price for the car which was last acceptable in the 80's! The Suzuki SJ comes in at just under the 1 litre cap and will have to hold four guys as well as some fuel, some water and a lot of Irn-Bru! Some early work makes it look like we will be fairly close to the SJ's weight limit which can only add to the fun!

We have decided we will be going on the Northern Route with a couple of detours along the way as part of a sponsorship deal with Doosan Babcock. But we are all really keen to get into the Kazakh desert as well as try out our Russian on the police!!!

Our translator is reading books as we speak, well, not really books. More facebook. But he is Ukrainian so I guess he might just have the edge on us in terms of Russian and Ukrainian!

Only bit of action of note so far was the alternator failure on the way home for the car! Woody can let you all in on that a bit more when he signs on! But for now, we are signed up, got a car, got the people, and just need some visas!
