Having braved the wilds of Europe, the beating heart of West Africa and the hinterlands of little-known North Melbourne, struggling with a two-stroke engine across the Indian subcontient was a logical choice for this indefatigable adventurer. With a sense of the ridiculous inversely proportional to her sense of direction, Sally knows she will be an asset to the team in its quest to get lost as quickly and as humorously as possible. When she is not burning brownies and inventing names for her future brood of illegitimate children, she enjoys playing scrabble and wearing her dressing gown, sometimes even at the same time.
One could be forgiven for thinking Spud’s composition is not well suited to a 2-week roadtrip across the Sub-Continent. His skin is pasty and pale, and is likely to react to the sizzling Indian sun by turning a deep shade of crimson. His body is hairy and he has a tendency to sweat profusely – characteristics which don’t lend themselves well to stifling humidity. He is the owner of a fragile stomach and sensitive palate, making curry-induced pyrotechnics inevitable. And he is wont to daydream whilst driving long distances, a trait not overly conducive to guiding a 3-wheeled tin can along Ganges-hugging pot-holed dirt tracks or deftly weaving in and out of the chaotic congestion in downtown Mumbai. Notwithstanding these physiological limitations, he is raring to go – as long his foot can reach the pedal of the two-stroke propelled rickshaw (which is by no means a certainty).
Alex moved from Melbourne to Adelaide at the tender age of 17 to pursue a career on the catwalk. Failing that, he moved quickly to pursue his second passion, becoming Rumpole of the Australian Bailey. Failing that, Alex switched careers yet again to become a management consultant. Other than that, Alex brings very little to the Dodgy Vindaloos. His mechanical experience is limited to fitting a subwoofer to his granny's car. He is, however, dedicated to the cause, having used up his entire annual leave only one month into his job to join in this adventure.
