5 days in Turkmenistan were amazing, next up more desert in Uzbekistan!
The darwaza has crater or “gates of hell” provided an amazing backdrop for a huge party with a bunch of other teams and also coincided with Fins birthday!
Ashgabat is one of the weirdest cities we’ve ever visited, the wide empty streets lined with beautiful marble buildings. The whole city oozes with grandeur.
Something does not feel quite right as the streets are virtually deserted, an air of falseness becomes apparent through spending time here
After a long 6 hour border crossing into Turkmenistan and a long drive on rocky roads we made it into Turkmenistan and the town of Turkmenbashi, next stop Ashgabat to meet up with the other teams
After 2 days in the ferry port and 3 days on the boat due to the weather we made it to Kazakhstan, the new plan is to drive towards Turkmenbashi via the coastal border road
Finally made it to Baku after a failed border crossing, a crash with an angry Turkish lorry man, no sleep, late night visa applications, a bribe and a hell of a drive. Time to see some of Baku then attempt the ferry crossing
A few days in the capital Tbilisi were an experience, people are friendly and the city has a lot to offer in terms of bars and nightlife.
We watched the Dinamo vs locomotive derby the second night after a big night out on the first.
Georgia so far proving to be one of the nicest places we have been so far,
More to come as we head into the mountains
Crossed the border into Georgia after leaving turkey, stopping for the night just north of batumi. After an eventful time marooned with the cars on the beach we searched for a camp spot, it was late, dark and we were hungry. We came across a grassy field next to a lake with an ominous stone building looming next to us, a bit sketchy but it will do!
In the morning we awake to the sound of cows trampling through the campsite driver by a friendly old Georgian lady. as the morning progressed cars of locals passed seemingly on their way to fish in the lake. One man waved and carried on but appeared 20 minutes later carrying a bag of food for us, a Georgian pizza like dish with bread and cheese. He handed it over smiled and drove off to continue his day.
Another act of kindness from a stranger and a great start to our time in Georgia
A few days spent exploring the amazing landscapes of Cappadocia watching the balloons rise at sunrise and riding quads at sunset
