East Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan
after the lush mountains and valleys of Kyrgyzstan coming back into the flat scrubland of Kazakhstan has been a bit depressing. We found a petty spot to camp in last night by a little stream- and then proceeded to be smack bang in the middle of a huge electrical storm all night. I wondered whether the tent was going to go up in flames or whether the stream would have turned into a river- as rich slept right through!!
Almaty Province, Kazakhstan
just had our first proper run in with a bent copper- well ste did anyway! -got clocked speeding and he wanted $100 as punishment (straight into his back pocket!) Ste held his ground and said 'No' and eventually the cop got bored and let him go!
Almaty, Kazakhstan
had the most delicious meal last night in a random restaurant with possible the best apple pie I have ever tasted! Last big city for a long long time so we are going to stock up on everything this morning!
Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan
quick bite to eat and then an to the border.
Dzhalal-Abadskaya, Kyrgyzstan
just ha a very welcome dip and wash in a beautiful emerald coloured mountain lake. Came complete with free range cows and 'pedicure fish' (the type you pay for in London for a good bit of exfoliation!)
Dzhalal-Abadskaya, Kyrgyzstan
approaching the 5000 mile mark with some amazing mountain passes and thankfully very well kept roads! Well done the Kyrgz!
Dzhalal-Abadskaya, Kyrgyzstan
on the road this morning after a night camping in a field under a beautiful starry sky. Our early start didn't quite happen after a small amount of car maintenance to fix an oil leak on Suzi- all sorted now AND the engine knocking had abated with the better petrol! -ready for a day driving over the mountain ranges! (Both driver an passenger relieved that we don't have to have the heating on anymore as Suzi has also stopped over heating at last!)
Osh, Kyrgyzstan
well so far Kyrgyzstan is right up there in my estimations; a super quick and friendly border, lots of smiley people and an abundance of PETROL- the good stuff too! Heading out of town to make camp for the night might treat ourselves to some delicious Moldovan wine (will that be a treat?!)
Tashkent, Uzbekistan
we made it! Finally arrived at the very non-Mongol Rally-like Radisson! (Thank goodness for all those loyalty points from work travels!) time for a dip in the pool!
Samarkand Province, Uzbekistan
left camp nice and early this morning so made Samarkand in good time. Just stopping for a quick look around and a coffee ad then on to Tashkent!
