Team Lets Get Ready To Mongol

Semey, Kazakhstan

our hair is falling out and our sump guard is on it's last limbs, the gobi boys have dented wheels and two blown shocks, must be a nuclear fall out zone! We're just short of semey making good progress not in the mood for hanging around in the fallout for too long though, hopefully russia part deux tomorrow.

Aral Sea, Uzbekistan

had a bit of a problem with the cv joint popping out, had it fixed with aid from the worlds happiest belgium, a little problem with the deceivingly named M32 and it's lack of motorway surface and its excessive sand mounds got rescued by some pretty good vehicles and shot over some impressive jumps and ditches, we're now in Aral looking over the sea from the harbour, well we would be if it hadn't been stolen by those ruskis.

Armed with a Kia bought in Fife and a route written up in an art student's sketch book three lads from the UK are driving 10,000 miles across some nice, some average, some bad and some arid landscapes to reach Ulaanbaatar in the heart of eastern Mongolia. Robert Meechan, Mark Rogerson and Chris Smith, all 22 (by the end of the trip Rob has to wait a couple of days into it) will hope into the seats of a Kia Rio on the 23rd of July and head on their merry ways all to raise money for the Mercy Corps and their work in Mongolia.

We have no experience, both physically and mentally, in this type of challenge and our chances of serious harm are high, so why would we do this? The world is just not exciting enough sometimes, roads are just too easy, and why shouldn't a small engined estate car make it on tracks a 4x4 would struggle with? What ever reason this is our challenge, our summer, our goal, welcome to the website for the 2010 Mongol Rally's Let's Get Ready To Mongol team, sit tight, take a look around and please consider donating to the excellent work the Mercy Corps do for both adult and child education in Mongolia, and thank you.
