Selenge, Mongolia
Success! We make it into Mongolia....however our car has not. Mongol authorities holding it whilst they do paperwork... Hopefully will be on the road early tomorrow...@
Ulan-Ude, Russian Federation
200 kms north of Mongolian border. Hoping early arrival will speed up historically glacial crossing. Added challenge - there are rum ** some text is missing **
Barnaul, Russian Federation
Lengthy, though fairly stress free crossing back into Russia. Now preparing for massive driving day into Siberia. Haven't showered since Samarkand...@
Semey, Kazakhstan
Now at top end of Kazakh after negotiating some very dodgy roads. Hoping our second Russian crossing goes smoothly so we can push on into Siberia.@
Toshkent, Uzbekistan
Early morning arrival into Uzbek capital after scary late night drive over from Samarkand (the legendary Silk Road city...). Hoping to cross the border back into Kazakhstan today, though wary about reports of mass corruption amongst Kazakh border guards. Their corrupt policemen are bad enough, so this should be interesting...
Bukhara, Uzbekistan
Now in Bukhara after black market petrol purchases... Seems we may be running low on fuel permanently during our Uzbek stay...
Khiva, Uzbekistan
Quick repair job on car, then set off for Silk Road city of Khiva. Find city following crazed local in unsuitable van. Then followed eager child on bike to hotel. Apparently in Uzbekistan it's easier just to follow someone to where you're going as sign-posting is not considered necessary. Anywhere...
Kungrad, Uzbekistan
After unsuccessful attempt to find Caspian Sea, headed to Uzbekistan. More friendly border guards - more interested in football than in checking bags - then a second fuel tank leak. Reached Kungrad without resort to friendly locals...
Atryau, Kazakhstan
Late night tour of city led to discovery of delightful Kazakh hotel covered in three days of dust and sweat. Air conditioning most welcome. Sampled bizarre delights of 'Guns n Roses' bar. Stocked up and headed to Uzbek border.
