On the Mongol Derby 2016

Planning, research, tried & true vs. creativity, practice with it, try it this way.....

..the internal rhetoric and monologue goes on and on until I put my foot in the stirrup, swing up and magically, it disappears. Mercifully, other sounds like soft ground under hooves, the horse breathing, chirping birds, a cooling breeze through the grass and trees. That's why I ride for hours and hours. It's the escape and the excitement of seeing whatever is out there.

I decided to take a leap and go for the gusto. Mongol Derby 2016. A few late night Moscow Mules and I'm writing slap-stick comments on the application resulting in Katy calling me the next day. It was after that phone call that I just began to absorb what I had just did. I put myself out there to ride in the toughest horse race. There are lots of ways out, but well, the rhetoric and monologue kick back in and here we are now. All paid up, packed up, over insured awaiting this major adventure.

Of course I'm not going to give up my regular adventures, just to go to Mongolia this year. I would be to easy on myself. I like taking on big commitments and seeing them through. Not everything gets completed or ends like I hoped, but I like the challenge. A lot. You'd think that I would strive for that achievement or relief, but nope. I seem to just move on to the next. Maybe the Derby will take care of that for me...or do I want it too?? Hmmmm.

So today finds me sharing some of these feelings with you to help explain why you'll see me out on the Steppe. Nothing earth-shattering, just me looking for more good times horseback and taking in what the ride has to offer.
