$13,100
That’s how much we raised on our Indiegogo campaign.
Wow. I’d say I was speechless but you’ll clearly see that’s incorrect as I continue to type.
I just recently gave Global Glimpse the news that they would be getting $6,550 and they were over the moon. What does $6,550 do for them? Here’s a message directly from Eliza, their Executive Director:
“We are incredibly grateful for the generosity each of you and members of your families and community have showed for our amazing students! $1,500 provides a full scholarship for a low income student in our program, hence you have provided over 4 New York City low income students with full scholarships to participate in the Global Glimpse 2015 program. If you want to see what that really means for these young people’s lives you can visit the blogs from our New York City delegation currently in Matagalpa, Nicaragua. The growth and learning is incredible.”
As for Greg, Brooke and myself, we head to London this Saturday to get last minute supplies, figure out how to put up our tent, realize that everything we want to bring won’t fit in the car and then launch on July 20th anyway.
Thanks to those who helped make this journey mean something more than just having us take on the road trips of road trips. Thank you for giving the chance of travel, exploration and immersion to a few students who would never have had the chance otherwise.
If you want to follow along during our trip, we’ll be posting photos and updates via: Instagram, Facebook, and this blog. Choose your own visual and literary adventure.
The journey begins. Our poor car has no idea what it’s in for and I’m sure, neither do we.
Bassam, Brooke and Greg
As the only member of my family born in the United States, life has offered me up many chances to do extraordinary things. I was always encouraged to live an inquisitive life so I became a scientist of the human experience through trial and lots of error. Over my journey, I’ve visited 50 countries, lived in 8 different cities, worked for 4 companies, started 3 of my own, received 2 degrees, wrote 2 screenplays, and have had 1 hell of great time doing it.
On we go.
