In touching distance of Jaisalmer & the finish line. Toughest day so far travelling from Ahmedabad to Barmer: sickness, sunburn, loose exhaust, no headlight, head gasket issues and worst of all no charge on the speaker, but we made it after 13.5 hours on the road and almost 400km covered.
Leisurely stroll to the finish now!
We made it to Ahmedabad, absolutely nothing to report en route, pure slog along motorways, 360km done, end is in sight.
Overnight stop over post-Mumbai in Vapi, 6 in a room Big Brother style. Up and at 'em early to check off serious KM's today..
No Tuk-Tuks in Mumbai apparently..
Well here we are, we made it. We decided to play our 'Luxury' card and upgrade hotels to one with views of the city skyline from the rooftop pool.
Whilst the girls enjoyed a spa morning at the hotel, the boys visited Dharavi slums in central Mumbai. 1.25 million people living & working within a single square mile. Very inspirational, hard working and happy people despite their situation.
Quick stop for breakfast at Goodluck Cafe in Pune in hope of a clear run through to Mumbai before dark.
We realised that the warnings we'd received about Tuk-Tuks being prohibited in Mumbai were true, as we narrowly avoided a heavy fine on the highway and reassessed other options to get in to the city without being stopped. We actually found a road under the highway that worked just fine:
Then on the way into Mumbai EVERYTHING broke. An amazing mechanic sorted us with a new gear cable, a new fuel tank bracket and repaired the break lights, horn and break pedal. Meanwhile after a kickabout we gave another ball away to 2 young boys and their aggressive pet goat Sultan.
Smashed out another PB yesterday of 320km from North Goa to Satara. Walking up a waterfall and all-you-can-eat Thali were the highlights!
A very early 4am start and another amazing Top Gear-esque drive down the mountain roads into Goa. Arrived in good time to reward ourselves with the afternoon on the beach and a walk around the town.
We did however manage to come to India's 'Party Capital' on one of the only dry days of the year. However we've discovered here that where there is a will there is a way and this lovely Nepalese man brought out his secret stash of Kingfishers just for us. Top geezer.
Arrived in Hubballi, decided to stick rather than dicing with the roads in the rain on towards Goa. A lovely 5 course meal with all the trimmings for the equivalent of £3 each.
Stopped en route to refuel and had a cheeky kickabout with the petrol station owner and some axe-wielding locals..
Only in India.
Best location so far, visiting temples in Hampi just after sunrise. They have prayer readings 24hrs-a-day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year here and have done so for 8 years solid..
Also took the morning off to give some much needed TLC to the Rickshaws.
Overnight stop in Tumakuru last night after setting a new daily distance PB of just over 300km's - attempting to match that again today en route to Hampi.
