Across the Andes and through the Amazon in this sofa motorbike? Utterly inappropriate for such an arduous journey!</span><span style="font-size: 9pt; font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif"> Who would ever do anything so mad as this....our team the Mad Moustachios will! The bottom line is that my nephew, John, and I are planning to participate in a Mototaxi race from Cuzco in the south of Peru to Piura in the north. You probably never heard of a Mototaxi but trust me, that's a good thing and in a few months time I’ll wish I never heard of one either. Our journey will take us across the Andes twice, driving through the jungle over the high plateau on the legendary Pan American highway.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 9pt; font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif">We will set off on New Year’s eve reaching the finish line some two weeks later. There will be a number of other adventurist teams raising money for charity on their mototaxis and each team can decide how to reach the final destination.  There are no support vehicles or event managers of any sort except for the start and the finish parties!</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 9pt; font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif">Broken down vehicle, muddy roads, leeches, flat beer, snakes, altitude, cold, heat, new language, bandidos, separatists, corruption, bribes, flat ipod battery, guerilla warfare, mosquitos, smart bombs, smelly socks, land mines, damp sleeping bag, fire and brimstone, belzebub, punctures and unwaxed moustache... What could possibly go wrong?</span></p> <p> </p><p> <img src="images/gallery09/6857/64892/400x400.jpeg" /></p><p> Please note that we are NOT doing this crazy thing for our own pleasue, oh no, we are righteous folk and want to give our contribution back to local Peruvian charities that are doing a fantastic job of supporting the local communities. The charity we have chose to support is called Practical Action. What really appeals to me is their pragmatic approach to helping people; the only deal with small scale projects that help people to help themself. They do a lot of small scale wind power, domestic solar power and micro hydro power projects. Stuff like a geek like me can be fascinated by.</p><p><u><strong><font size="3">We need your support</font></strong></u><strong> </strong>to be able to pull this project off. Please help us help Practical Action helping the local people. Our target is to raise 2000 pounds.
