On the Rickshaw Run January 2020

After wandering around Jaisalmer fort and getting to know the town this evening we decided to flag a rickshaw and head for dinner to the fancy Suryagarh Hotel! As we rattled along the main road for 20 mins we were starting to understand what 10 hrs day might feel like 😅 As we rocked up to Suryagarh in our rickety rickshaw we were asked to turn around cause ALL the restaurants were fully booked - not ready to give up we said we would like to have a few Gin & Tonics before heading back in the Rick and to our surprise found most of the restaurants were half empty! Shortly after we wangled our way into one of them and had an amazing dinner. As we stepped out the door man called in for our “taxi” - I said hold on it’s a rickshaw and he went yes sir I know - the small one right? With the small guy and slowly but surely our rickshaw sputtered up the drive away in epic fashion. We told the door man we have left the Rolls at home this evening and zoomed out of there! A good first day!

Gems of the day:

“Hello sir, step in - I can help you spend your money”

“Sirji, don’t follow that google map, it is useless in Jaisalmer!”

Cool Earth

Working with five rainforest villages in Maniema, the most remote province in the Democratic Republic of Congo. These villages were expelled from the two neighbouring national parks when they were created. As well as halting forest loss, we’re working to ensure that this time, these villages benefit from keeping the forest standing.
