we finally dragged ourselves away from varanasi after a magical 2 nights. Our blessing of the rickshaws with holy ganges water seems to be paying off and our crew of 3 tuktuks are powering on through central india, trying to get as many kms as poss with plenty of chai, fried food and lots of laughs. Found chilled beer last night was great added bonus.
Week 1
Finally made it to the elusive Varanasi and it has lived up to all expectations. Just magical.
Roge, the rickshaw, has also had a full service so he is no doubt as happy as larry now. He really struggled yesterday and we crawled into town. A small kiss on a lorry's bottom didn't help matters.
Heading off this afternoon and we'll troop down as far as we can -finally heading South after a long trek West.Â
Long way to go still - over 2,000k but we're confident that the raods should be better from here on in - famous last words.Â
Apparently we are experiencing a heat wave at the moment and the temperature outside is enough to make the blood boil. Even with the breeze in the rickshaw it feels like you have your head in a fan oven. Now that Roge's windscreen is mended we are also without our added ventilation.Â
Struggling to get photos uploaded but we will as soon as we can.Â
Until then we'll keep on trucking.Â

Intrepid journey so far, more offroad than anticipated but all adds to the adventure!Roger our rickshaw is doing us proud, will update more when can.
Preparation 1
Well reality has finally hit...excitement tainted with quite a lot of fear has set in and organisation mode is well and truly underway. The map has been pulled out and now has highlighted markers, start and finish points anyway. Top of all our minds right now though is fundraising. Please help us to raise as much money as we can for both of our amazing charities....it is really easy! Click on the "Our Charities" link on the left hand side of this page, and then the "Donate" button. We really appreciate all your support...thank you very much!Â
English female, 29 going on 12 and 5ft9 when sober. WLTM anoyone who knows which way Goa is. Knows little difference between a spark plug or a sparkler. GSOH to be tested after 12 hours riding in the back of a rickshaw. Seeks pennies to contribute to amazing charities alongside words of mechanical wisdom and some diarolyte.
Knowledge of spark plugs - none. Ability to read a compass - limited. Determination to reach the end, having raised as much money as possible for our two charities and had the most amount of fun possible - check.
I have no idea what we have let ourselves in for but for now I say, let the adventures begin
Having being coerced into taking part relatively late in the game (although admittingly it wasn't too hard), you would have thought that my two team mates would have asked someone who has strengths in areas that are needed. Thinking about what I can add more than what Susannah mentions... I can count to 15 in hindi??! ...Bring on the adventure, I cannot wait!
