Happily married programme manager and step-mum to a large rowdy family, Shirley has been horse riding for fresh air and gallops all her life.
Brought up on a wild and windy Yorkshire farm, she blew around the outdoors with her brother, dogs, cattle and the occasional borrowed horse for 20 years. She isn’t a competitive rider, no riding fame and glory here… (yet!)
Just before her 43rd birthday, she had a brain haemorrhage and stroke. Her life completely changed. Whilst convalescing back on the windy hillside of her childhood, the idea to race the Gaucho Derby took hold.
Completely recovered and feeling great again, she’s keen to prove she’s back to normal… although is anyone doing this race actually normal?
