Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia
!!!!! Finish line !!!
We will take our finish pic tomorrow. Small celebration today. Lovely city restaurants close at 10 to make room for strip entertainment. Next Mongolrally we take an Agila with 4.7 ltr engine. To match the locals. To prevent being put in the dust all the time. Cheers!

two aborted (different route ) attempts to reach Karakorum (former capital of Chengisjh Kahn) today. Saw first small forest in at least a week! Hesitant to finish but with just over a 100 KM to go it may just happen tomorrow......

finally on Tarmac again. Though sometimes that also brings surprises in the form of deep potholes. Thus far managed to keep the car in one piece. Now discussing what to do with our spare days. Gobi desert or chengis khans former capital. All is very well with UB in sight.

passed halfway. Roads bearable/disaster. Lots of emptiness. Camping in thunderstorm. Two eggs and coffee for breakfast. Best so far and better than in hotels. Still 100 km of washboardroads to go and then hopefully tarmac until Uluunbataar.
Govi-Altai, Mongolia
surrounded by Mongolian eagles we drove to a medieval village with fast food (noodles) and fast wireless Internet. A miracle! Car is holding well and we drove a record distance of 450 km over washboard like tracks.

a learning day (again). Never try to drive over
Bayan-Ulgii, Mongolia
today we passed the Russian and Mongolian border in record braking time, but we also encountered our first drawback. On the harsh roads of Mongolia we broke our exhaust. Big noise resulted. Luckily we bumped into Nicolai and Martijn, two Dutch guys with a mobile garage in their Range Rover so we could fix the problem Mongol style in half an hour. Fingers crossed for the last stretch to Ulaanbataar.

went out of the car to take some pictures and suffered a severe mosquito attack, wow! We are now on to a delicate process of braking using the engine and the handbrake although car continues to do well with normal brakes, just sounds wrong! We have also started a display on our dashboard inside the car containing a Yurt, a group of cows and sheep. The set contains a pig too which for now we have hidden inside the yurt as the odd one out.
