I believe we are just past the half way mark today. Overall smooth travel. Zero maintenance issues today and 270 kilometers covered. Josh removed an on/off valve on the fuel line and replaces it with a second fuel filter. It seems that it corrected our fuel problem.
Today, no police, no traffic “god that was close” moments, only smooth driving and kind people one after the other. Really an extraordinary country.
We will be hitting the 1,000 kilometer mark today. Overall, no major issues. A wrong turn here or there taking us through some beautiful national park with some god awful roads. I was hoping that we wouldn’t break down and have to spend the night cuddled up together in the mountains trying to stay warm. Joshua wasn’t worried about the cold, just about what kind of predators were in the forest. We ended up making it to Karwar and a descent hotel for less than $30. Many teams are experiencing maintenance issues, some 10 to 20 breakdowns in the first 5 days with still 3/4 the trip remaining. I believe we are lucky, with only a few maintenance stops, fuel and carburetor related. Josh’s skills as a mechanic are invaluable. Today we depart Pune by passing Mumbai to the east. No interest in braving the jams and traffic craziness of one of the world’s largest and most chaotic cities. We are healthy, with a slight change in our intestinal tracks. Lots of great laughs, absolutely wonderful people. As we pass, the rickshaw with the two crazy westerners, either make people smile or have the most incredulous expression of WTF.
Well on our way, some where over 200 kilometers into the first day,. Back country, rural roads, a bit rough and pot holes but overall making good time. On our 3rd tank of fuel (10 litre tank) which gives us a range of 100 to 120 kilometers per fueling.
