The Helpless Children Mother Centre
We are using this opportunity to raise money for a good cause, and that is Keta Keti Avenir (formerly The Helpless Children Mother Centre). This is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation dedicated to helping orphaned, abandoned, and vulnerable children in Nepal. One of our family members has volunteered with the children there (and provided the photos above) and knows the orphanage personally, we can vouch every penny of this money will go directly to the benefit of the children you see, without any charity taking a large proportion. The center provides children with their most essential needs: a safe home, daily meals, and access to education—giving them the chance to build a brighter future. The story of the center began in the early 1990s with Nawang Dorjee Sherpa, who worked as a porter on mountain expeditions in the Himalayas. During his work in these remote regions, he witnessed firsthand the difficult reality faced by many families in the mountains of Nepal. Because of extreme poverty and isolation, many children had little or no access to education, and families often struggled just to provide basic care. Determined to help, Nawang Dorjee Sherpa partnered with a group of social workers to create a solution. In 1998, with the initial support of Japanese climbers he had met during expeditions, the Helpless Children Mother Centre was founded. At the beginning, 41 children lived together in a small rented home, but they finally had the opportunity to attend school and grow up in a stable environment filled with hope. Today, the project is located in Salleri, Solukhumbu, in eastern Nepal—the same mountainous region that is home to Mount Everest. The center now cares for around 70 children from across Nepal, providing them with housing, food, schooling, and emotional support. The center continues to operate thanks to the support of donors and partner organizations, including the French association Keta Keti Avenir, led by its president Pasang Kaji Lama. *The first £500 raised will go towards CoolEarth, a charity who protects the largest rainforests in the world by supporting the Indigenous people who live there, as per the request of The Mongol Rally organisers.
