Made it to Vama Veche!! My chain sprocket almost fell off, 2 out of 3 of the bolts were on the last thread, so had to fix that 15km away. Also another team member ran out of gas 10 km away, luckily we were right next to a gas station. Once we arrived, we took a swim in the Black Sea and had celebratory drinks! We drove about 1100km over 7 days, probably did 40-50ish hours of driving total. Now off to Bucharest, Amsterdam, then back to the States
Made it to Constanta! Only 50ish km to go for the finish line woooooo Only notable thing about yesterday were we didnt have to pay a toll at the toll booth and we saw a rainbow most the way here, we also got a full watermelon from some random dude before leaving Slobozia
Day 6- after doing about 190km yesterday and crushing our spirits in the mud yesterday, we decided to sleep in, do laundry, tighten our chains, and eventually head to Constanța (hopefully)
Day 5 made it to Slobozia, 30ish km from the mud fiasco. Along the way got passed by 3 18 wheelers at once going 3x our speed which was pretty neat. We were again covered in mud and soaked and exhausted. I forgot pics of the mud so here they areeee
Day 5- made great time until we hit a gravel road, and then it starter raining. The road up ahead began turning muddy and it took us 4-5 hours to get to the next asphalt road. This time was rougher than Day 2, as we had to keep removing mud from our front tires (they would lock up) and from our chains. Another Monkey Runner team of 2 that we’ve been crossing paths with went the same way and they found us struggling through the mud, so they got to experience the fun as well. 2 bikes chains popped off but luckily didn’t snap so David was able to put them back onto the sprocket. 1 bikes engine overheated from being overworked and covered in mud. Another bike was almost flooded from driving through deep water. Most of the time was spent walking our bikes to lessen the mud picked up by the tires. Not what we wanted to deal with but whatever ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Day 5- decided not to go to Brasov or Bucharest and just start heading towards Constanta, trying to take as many back roads as possible. We were waved down by a police officer who wanted to see one of our registration and insurance papers, and then quickly let us go onwards.
Day 4- We hit 60kph somewhere along this road, and even got some air off a bump. It was SICK. Also Spencer spotted an abandoned building near Târgovişte so we explored it before heading to our hostel. Total distance for the day- 210km
Day 4- Rainbow all the way doh!
Went northeast to avoid more mountains and found a steep gravel road where we had to walk our bikes up since they werent powerful enough
Day 4 post Transfagarasan- oil change, pumped up tires and ate lunch at some chicken place
