After a day in Ulaanbaatar we beasted a 13 hour night drive back into Russia and have just arrived at the finish line!
From here Ed, Charlie, Richard and Chris are flying home via Moscow whilst the other three begin the slightly more arduous task of trying to drive our battered old cars all the way across Russia back to Europe
We've only gone and done it!
Big news - despite getting stuck in mud and sand, punctures and exhausts coming off, we have conquered Mongolia and made it to Ulaanbaatar!
Time to go out for some celebrations - tomorrow's task it to find some local delicacies to make up for our donation promise!
Khovd
Quick stopover to get two tyres repaired, new battery fitted and a welded exhaust #productivity
We are into Mongolia!
Actually a really simple border crossing, after hearing a lot of horror stories the last few weeks!
Spending the night in a nice hotel and off to find some local Mongol cuisine
Into Russia!
Made it across into Russia, time for a quick blast through a thousand kilometres of countryside before hitting the border
Kazbek, Borodulikha District, East Kazakhstan Region
Looks like a delightfully long queue here at the Russian border - wish us luck!
Pavlodar, Pavlodar District, Pavlodar Province
Authentic Kazak breakfast (KFC) kicked off a good days driving. Hopefully crossing into Russia via Semey tomorrow
Long day's driving
Up early and made it 850km up the country. We heard the eastern route was pure potholes so headed the long way north to get to Semey.
Treating ourselves to pizza and some drinks to celebrate the progress (and the miracle of the Fiat working all day)
Camping in the country
The Fiat works! Got a couple of hundred km out of town then set up camp - off the main road, we hear the police aren't massive fans of roadside camping here
We found McDonald's
The Panda is spending a few hours in the garage after a 120km tow into Almaty.
However, after weeks away from Western culture we're treating ourselves to McDonald's and some touristing around the city!
