Raised in rural North Carolina, Renée Alexander moved to the high desert of Bend, Oregon after completing graduate school in Communications. For 14 years, she embraced the outdoor lifestyle and learned painful lessons about mountain biking before high-tailing it to San Francisco on her 40th birthday.
Over the course of four decades, she has road-tripped up and down the East Coast, across the United States, down to Mexico, and up through British Columbia. She has explored more than 10,000 kilometers of New Zealand and Australia in a campervan, and once crossed the Guatemala-Honduras border in the back of a pick-up truck. She completed a ten-day, Pub-a-Day car tour of Southern England from the left side of the road, followed by a 2-week road trip through the Pyrenees Mountains and into Southern Spain on the "right" side of the road, in the same car.
Despite these traveling "credentials," she couldn't point West if a pint of beer depended on it. But she won't be deterred. "I'm not lost," she insists. "I'm just sneaking up on my destination."
She is joining the Rickshaw Run to find out if a good story really is better than a good time.
Home-schooled in the gently rolling cornfields of the American heartland, Gabe grew up to be a professional nerd by day, and an amateur ninja by night.
A problem-solver by nature, this Engineer is sure he can methodically solve the chaos of the Rickshaw Run. Otherwise, he never would have been duped into signing up for this mad adventure.
