Nearly there!

After 12 days of very early starts (up at 5am) and 14 hours of driving each day we have now covered some 3400km with around 500km now seperating us from a well deserved dip in the sea and cocktail on Goa's beaches. Each state we travel through seems to have thier general election takng place and resulting in the sale of alcohol being prohibitd! Not impressed!

The trip has been much harder than any of us could have expected with the long driving days, temperatues in the mid 40's (apparently there is a heatwave just as we are crossing the hot dessert interior and as a result we have been spending more money on water than petrol, food and hotels combined) and burning winds all taking there toll!  Every time we stop a huge crowd instantly gathers around us wanting to know what we are doing and where we are from. Whilst all of the poeolple are so friendly and helpful it is starting become tiring having the same things asked over and over every day! a good nights sleep is needed by all!

Since our last update progess has been good covering over 400km each day passing throuht he cities of Nagpur and Hyderabad. we have been lucky so far and had ony one mechanical malfunction when our breaks packed up! This as quickly sorted with the help of 'the town genious' with the parts labour (2 hours) and an oil change completed for just over one pound!

So far we have all aoided the dreaded Delhi Belly and have only been stopped by the police once! We are living a charmed life!

Given our progress over the last few days, and our state of tiredenss, we hae decided to take a rest day tomorow to exlore the town of Hampi and the extensive remains of a 15th Centrury city.

Take a look at the media section above especially those of the launch day photos and cricket match, there are some good pics of the Top Run boys especially No. 17 on the lauch day photos!

Hopefully Goa on Friday with an update to follow on Saturday.

Charity Begins At The Bar

The race is drawing near, the nerves are gaining pace and our mottly crew still remains far from fully prepared for the massive undertaking at hand.

To assist us in our fundraising mountain we three gluttons for punishment have arranged a charity cocktail and hopefully raffle evening at the St Albans Hockey Club. This prestigious event to which all and sundry are invited will commence on Friday 13th March 2009 at St Albans Hockey Club within the grounds of Clarence Park (adjacent to St Albans City Station). The aim of the evening is to quite simply raise as much money as possible by providing some light hearted entertainment and high quality, tasty alcoholic beverages whilst at the same time providing some choreographed bungling behind the bar by our good selves.

This evening along with the proposed charity curry banquet has been arranged and organised to raise as much money and awareness for Frank Water Projects and SOS Children’s Villages prior to our departure as possible. Your attendance and support will assist us greatly in providing clean water supplies for local communities and also find homes for orphaned and homeless children. So please pencil in this celebratory occasion in your diaries and head on down on Friday 13th March 2009 at St Albans Hockey Club for around 8.00pm for fun and frolics all in aid of two great charities.

Apparently I am to be the "small" member of the team (we'll let the little ginger fella think that). So... along with these two chaps I will be driving from northeast India to the glorious shores of Goa in our mobile home for two weeks - the legendary Rickshaw!
As a bit of a speed junkie I couldn't resist the opportunity of driving a 150cc 7bhp unreliable and cramped tin can 4000km across India! Personally, I don't bring any specific mechanical skills to this mighty team (in that I have none)and I'm not that good at wrestling tigers and snakes but I am relishing the prospect of raising a wedge for two fantastic causes, an almighty team challenge and a very unique race!

As the taller member of this team of intrepid ‘Adventists’ I suspect I’ll be in charge of utilising my superior height to plan the most efficient route whilst constantly looking out for any up coming hazards like potholes, snakes, tigers, you know the usual sort of thing.
