The best answer we came up with:

James Bowman and Jono Stokes are two blokes from Adelaide AUSTRALIA. We are participating in the Mongol Rally 2011 as an excuse to have two months off of work and raise funds for the Christina Noble Children's Foundation and Engineers without Borders (Australia).

I can see this photo being used on national television when we go missing somewhere in Iran.

Money. We want yours. Please.

In case you haven't worked it out yet, the Mongol Rally is all about driving across inhospitable terrain in an unprepared and unlikely vehicle all in the name of raising money for charity.

We've picked two fantastic organisations to back this year; the Christina Noble Children's Foundation (CNCF) and Engineers without Borders Australia (EWB). Have a look at our Charities page for more information and get donating.

Sadly all this gallavanting doesn't come cheap. Or even moderately priced. Hence we're also after sponsors to help get us overseas, in a car and on the road to Mongolia. Have a look at our Sponsors page for the generous organisations that have ponied up to make this journey happen.

Where are we going..?

We'll be driving from London, through Western Europe and down to Turkey, then we'll hit up Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Russia and finally Mongolia. On the off chance that we actually make it to Ulaan-Bataar we'll be taking the Trans-Siberian back to Moscow before flying home via London and back to grim reality.

If we learn anything on this journey, it'll be how to read maps. Or that we can't.

We will be updating our blog regularly leading up to the trip so check back regularly. Our Route page has a nice picture of where we might be along the way. We'll try to keep it updated.

Who we are

JAMES BOWMAN

James is a Mechanical Engineer who works for BHP Billiton in Roxby Downs. He has travelled through a litany of countries but this will be his most challenging conquest yet.

Jono and Jemaine: Equally squinty

Jono brings no skills to the table except for luck, humour (sometimes) and his iPod playlists.
