SEE OUR SHAW!

One of the fun things about the Rickshaw Run is that we get to design our rickshaw! And this is the design we submitted!

WHAT DO NINJAS AND NINJA MONKEYS HAVE TO DO WITH GILLETTE CHILDREN'S OR THE TWO LASSIS?

WELL, NOTHING. BUT THE NINJAS ARE CUTE AND FIERCE AND ARGUABLY, WE ARE CUTE AND FIERCE AS WELL.

AND FOR ANYONE WHO IS QUESTIONING OUR SPELLING ABILITIES, "LASSIS" IS NOT A CONSISTENT TYPO. IN AN ATTEMPT TO BE CLEVER, I SUGGESTED THE NAME THINKING OF THE SCOTTISH WORD LASS OR LASSIE, AND A LASSI, WHICH IS A YOGURT-BASED DRINK ORIGINATING FROM BANGLADESH. TRADITIONALLY IT IS A SAVORY DRINK, SOMETIMES SPICED WITH ROASTED AND GROUND CUMIN. WHILE VERY CONTROVERSIAL AMONG TRAVELERS AS IT CONTAINS WATER AND/OR ICE (WHICH WILL LIKELY SET OFF A BOUT OF DELHI BELLY IF THE WATER HAS NOT BEEN FILTERED), THE BANANA LASSI I HAD WAS WELL WORTH THE SLIGHT INTERRUPTION TO MY PEACE OF MIND.

Hello our fellow blog followers,

I think there is no better way for Nancy and I (the Jessica) to introduce ourselves to you, than by telling you the story of how we met and how this adventure came to be.

Nancy and I have known each other for about..... let's just Taylor Swift has been shakin' off those haters longer than we've known each other. We met around August climbing at VE, and I found out she was also a big traveler. As I'm a traveler myself, I was interested in picking her brain and asked her to grab a beer sometime so I could soak in her traveling wisdom. At first, I thought I must have came off a bit creepy since I still hadn't received a response from Nancy for almost two weeks. However, it just turned out she that was in India, go figure.

So now it's a Thursday night, and I'm sitting at the Happy Gnome with a notebook and pen in hand waiting for Nancy. As I'm scrolling through Instagram on my phone, in walks Nancy. Nancy, such a little fashionista, walks in with her large purple Patagonia messenger bag on her back, knitted hipster hat, knitted multi-color stripped leg warmers, and fluffy boots (although I think my imagination may have added that detail...in fact upon reading my post, Nancy, with a scathing look, assured me that she wouldn't be caught in fluffy boots). She sits down next me, and the first thing I realize about her is that she definitely showers with that biodegradable, super eco-friendly, lavender soap. I remember thinking that was sooooo fitting, and we are definitely going to be friends.

We begin chatting about traveling, and end up talking for a few hours. Somewhere among the beer, Nancy threw out the idea of a Richshaw race she heard about across India. "Heck Yeah!" was my first and only response, because who wouldn't want to drive across a country in a modified moped? Of course I said this thinking nothing will come of it as we don't really know each other, and most people flake out on such adventures due to work, etc. So I go home thinking about where I would like to travel next, and how I would like to brew beer.

I wake up the following morning around 5am to get ready to go to work, and I see I have a message. I find a short novel from Nancy, sent at 3am, stating how my enthusiasm excited her and she started doing research and bought a plane ticket to India for the rickshaw race. I've already done quite a bit of traveling, but this was one of those things that you know will be a once in a lifetime adventure that won't come around again. So it's a done deal, I'm in.

And that is how we met and this adventure came to be.

Are you excited to see development of this trip and Nancy and my friendship? Because I am, and I have a strong feeling it will be filled with some awkward moments and funny situations.
