Hi! We are 3 idiots embarking on the Mongol Rally to Kazakhstan this year in a 1976 Lada and are looking to fundraise for a few charities along the way. The team consists of 3 university friends (David, Gavin, and Sam) who decided that life was too boring and had to spice things up a little. None of us know how to fix a car, hell one of us doesn't even have a licence, and the car refuses to start based on the phase of the moon and whether or not Mercury is in retrograde. Nevertheless, we believe that through sheer will and determination, we can get this Soviet era metal box on wheels named Gertie back to her rightful home. Will she even make it out of Europe? Stay tuned!

You might be wondering to yourself, "how did three automotivally inept morons decide to embark on a 7,500km+ journey?". Pints... quite a few of them actually, and access to the world at our fingers through the power of a smartphone and a credit card to buy the team ticket. So here we are, a few years later (some world events or something happened, idk) finally setting off on this grand adventure! We will break down, as will the car, and that's part of the fun! Or so we're told. We will be documenting what we can of this trip on our Instagram page @ulaantoofar, hope to see you there!

"Wait this is the Mongol Rally, why aren't you going to Mongolia?"
Good question, and to sum it up in a few words, the world is complicated at the moment and actually driving to Mongolia just isn't realistic. We are very sad about this too, but it is what it is, and we are still going to the eastern end of Kazakhstan so not exactly a walk in the park from London.

As part of our rally, we are raising some funds for a couple of cool charities:
Cool Earth is a charity dedicated to helping combat the climate crisis and protect rainforests. Given that we are not exactly doing our part to help combat the climate crisis by driving halfway around the eurasian continent, this is our way of making up for that! https://www.coolearth.org/why-we-exist/
Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) is a charity that provides medical assistance to people affected by conflict, epidemics, etc. The world is a turbulent place, and MSF provide incredibly vital and necessary healthcare to so many affected people around the world. It also feels fitting that an adventure centered around crossing so many borders and experiencing so much of what our world has to offer would help to support such a cause. https://www.msf.org/who-we-are

We're setting off on the 10th of July 2024, however we will keep fundraising until the 13th of September 2024.

We appreciate you for taking the time to read our fundraiser, any donations would be hugely appreciated as they will help both these tremendous organizations continue to do planet and life saving work!

Thanks!
