RICKSHAW RUN: Day 6 (161 km from Jambughoda to Mandvi, driving for about 6 hours)

*AKA the memorable day of our worst breakdown yet!!!*

• Kicked off the day with a long, determined drive to the world’s tallest statue (as of a few months ago): the Statue of Unity! It is still somewhat unfinished and was honestly a total chaos. More people stopped us for photos than anywhere else in India- it was wild.

RICKSHAW RUN: Day 6 (~167 km Jambughoda to Mandvi)

*Note: Day 5 was spent driving to a modest, Maharajah-owned homestay in a rural tribal village called Jambughoda. We stopped by a 17th century indo-Islamic mosque to celebrate World Heritage Day. The evening ended in a minor anaphylactic shock for my travel partner- luckily we have the right medication for him!

• Started the morning off with a rickshaw photoshoot with a large Indian family having a reunion at the homestay we were at! They all wanted photos of themselves pretending to drive the rickshaw.

DAY TWO: Stuck in the beautiful blue city of Jodhpur with a bad case of “Delhi Belly” aka “what happens when you accidentally drink the water.” I didn’t think we’d miss whizzing around on a three-wheeled metal death trap as much as we do today! We’re resting today and planning for a sunrise start to Udaipur tomorrow!

Piper

Powered by beans, lentils and any other musical fruits, this tuk tuk team is tooting its way across the globe. Piper is an vegan-ish American vegetarian, eating her way to a new country every month for a year. Dimitri is a half-Greek, half-British carnivore with a keen eye for hilarity and mischief.

We stumbled into each other in a dusty bar in Tanzania; fell in love in the back of an ambulance in Zanzibar; learned to drive manual on a cow-pie-covered airstrip in South Africa; and are now ready to span this vegetarian mecca in a tin can on wheels!
