Houston... We have a problem.
In classic HELLO! Magazine style, we can exclusively reveal the truth behind the allegations of corruption against the disgraced Kyrgyzstan President Kuranbek Bakiyev.
Sources close to the interim government allege that vast quantities of money were being siphoned from public funds to supplement the President's increasingly lavish lifestyle. Our source, who wishes to remain anonymous, gained access to the President's private expense account which revealed the extent of Bakiyev's apparent contempt for common decency.
Our source turned whistleblower when he discovered that Bakiyev had spent  £200 on 4 tickets to see Whitney Houston at the LG Arena in Birmingham on April 13. Â
> I was able to turn a blind eye to the gambling, prostitution and drug abuse but when I saw this I knew I had to draw the line.
Our source explained that he watched Whitney Houston perform on the 2009 series of X Factor in the UK and was entirely unconvinced by her performance.
"I thought it was insincere and lacked authenticity." He said, "And I couldn't have public funds squandered on such folly, particularly after the recent hikes in energy prices seen across the country."
When news of the ticket purchase broke, people flooded onto the streets of Bishkek in protest. Demonstrations were at first peaceful until further revelations that Bakiyev had submitted a proposal to the Krygyzstan legislature to replace the national anthem with Whitney Houston's 1987 hit record "I Wanna Dance with Somebody."
Bakiyev has since fled to his hometown of Osh. When armed police officers stormed government buildings to arrest him, they found that his office had been entirely emptied. All that remained was a rare 7" vinyl of the single "I Will Always Love You" as featured heavily in Oscar nominated film "The Bodyguard" which also starred Houston. Reports suggest that Bakiyev had penned an apology to the people of Kyrgyzstan, although these reports are as yet unsubstantiated, it is believed that the vinyl upon which he wrote was intended to have symoblic significance.
Bakiyev is not believed to have made it to the concert last night but Houston received mixed reviews following her her first UK tour dates in 11 years. It is not know whether Bakiyev was able to get a refund.Â
