Any teams passing through or stopping at this last major town before UB keep an eye open for the rally coordinators sign on the right just before the first gas station. They have somewhere to stay, Internet access and a vegetarian restaurant of all things! The coordinator is a lovely lady who speaks English. Her name is Oyunchimeg and her number is +97699730373. She can also help find mechanical help if you need it.

Wow! What a day! We've covered over 500kms across deserts and through rivers. After the tough corrugated roads of yesterday we have averaged around 50km/h today. In some places hitting 90km/h across the Gobi Desert flats. We keep asking the same question... How the hell is this car doing what we are putting it through. We drove it through a proper river this afternoon after we took the wrong track and ended up too far south. A line of children waded in to show us the shallowest route but it was still up to the top of the bumper. A great day and we're now just 650kms from Ulaan ** some text is missing **

I have to admit to having a bit of 'fear' today. We were driving on tracks up the sides of moutains, through rivers and contending with rocks the size of a really big thing. But the Micra has stood up to this with impressive form. It even took a direct hit from one the said rocks and kept on going. We've covered about 350kms on our first day in Mongolia and this place is spectacular. We've never seen anything like it before. It's amazing!! The last 75 -100kms was great fun. Reletively 'smooth' gravel allowed us to fly along at 80km/h and reach Hovd before sunset. You have to see the scenery here to believe it. Stunning.
