Thomas Larke

Dover-bound.

Hey guys,

The moment has come, we're just about to leave for the morning ferry to Calais. From there we hope to reach Dusseldorf tonight to meet up with Tom's sister, and then onwards eastwards on Tuesday.

Had a bit of a last minute panic on Friday: went to Leicester to see the lovely Sam and Paul at Epic Accessories, Oadby, who have been unbelievably generous in lending their expertise and donating a ton of spare parts for the car. After they had fitted our roofrack, kindly donated by Thule, we went to Clear Image Design to get the final sponsor logos put on the car. It was only then, at six oclock on Friday, that our exhaust gave in and snapped where the weld had rusted through. We pulled over into an ATS centre who told us they couldn't get at the exhaust because they couldnt remove the sump guard - something to do with the bolts being cross-threaded (?), and that we would have to wait at least a week for a replacement.

We got the car back to Elmfield and removed the sump guard ourselves (just needed a bit of force) and then took it down to Tyres Galore on Saturday morning where Jay quoted us £240 for a new exhaust, to be delivered that afternoon. Seeing us wince at the cost, he offered to patch it up with weld for £60 which sounded good to us!

So here we are in Bexhill, 300 miles done (1/30th of the way there!) and there are already signs that we might not make it...

Not sure when the next update will be, The Adventurists have yet to confirm how we update by text but hopefully we'll get on the internet in a couple of days.

 See you soon.
