Taking advice from the locals, we have driven via Oral to Aktobe. Met some Dutch ralliers last night and we ended up minor celebrities when we parked the car up on the main strip. Just got pulled over by the police as I was writing this, he was only interested in flicking through our nuts mag before sending us on out way! MS

Just left Atyrau with temps soaring to 42 degrees. Headed to Aktobe now and have just passed the 4000 mile mark. There are also loads of camels in Kazakhstan. MS@

Up early this morning, been on the road for good 4 hours. It's 33 degrees and I have managed to burn my right arm whilst driving. On a better note, we have started to successfully avoid buying fizzy water at petrol stations! MS

Found a nice place to set camp just off the main road. Played a spot of football in a corn field. Time for bed, up at 6am to head into Russia. MS
