Meet Mr. Smyth
John Smyth is my name, and I complete the duo of the Mad Mountain Men. Hailing from Roscommon in the west of Ireland, many people would consider growing up in that part of the country an adventure in itself, so you can say I was born to do the 'Rickshaw Run'!Â
I had a huge connection to a red and black tricycle from a very early age, driving my mother and father mental by driving it around the house at break-neck speeds, this is simply just a step up to a slightly quicker model, in rougher, less homely terrain.
Looking forward to the trip for two reasons:
- It's an adventure, not a holiday. I have been on numerous 'package holidays' where everything is set up for you and most things go according to plan (apart from that one time my sister got her appendix out in Tenerife!). But this is completely mad! Going out into the wild of India, in a tuk-tuk that a ride on lawn mower probably would rival in a race, and without any help, map, local guide, tips or hints we travel 2,500km from north to south. Something I hope will be a life-long experience.
- It gives us the perfect chance to raise money for not one but two charities - Frank Water Projects and The Irish Epilepsy Association, raising much needed funds for two very diverse causes.
So please support us in our trek, any funds will be more than appreciated. With just over 7 months to go I think it's time we get some money!
Thanks for now,
JohnÂ
