The day before yesterday our rickshaw was losing power every 10 minutes, but with very kind assistance from the taj mahalics we made it to Palolem and retired early for the day at the charioteer's swim-up bar. We left the rickshaw with a mechanic overnight and the next day it was as good (?) as new, which is more than could be said for a certain team member who had overindulged on G

Paid an auto driver on the outskirts of Baroda to guide us into town to a lovely hotel with hot water. We then had dinner with the managing trustee of udayan care (www.udayancare.org) which is the other NGO we did our fundraising for. Local "spicy sweet" Gujarati food absolutely delish!

Crossed over to Gujarat yesterday to find roads with shoulders and some greenery. Everyone very friendly on the roads - motorcyclists literally shaking our hands as they pass and children in buses trying to hand us pens and things. Pulled over by highway patrol, felt a little apprehensive, but they just wanted a photo. Our rickshaw's making a strange sound but we hope to make it to Vadodara tonight.

Chose to go straight south at the last minute. 155kms in 4 hours for the first day with no major hiccups. Lots of rocks, shrubbery, sand, a few camels and a couple of peacocks along the way. Now staying in a very plain hotel room containing someone else's shirts, trousers and underpants.
