Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia
So after the huge stress of the Rally, what better way to unwind than to head out in to the wilderness and fire some heavy weaponry! We both shot an AK-47 on full auto! And Luke shot a mounted machine gun! Mongolia just keeps on giving.
Ovorkhangai, Mongolia
We finally hit tarmac! So to celebrate we opted to go clubbing with the locals. We were having a brilliant night until a rather handsy individual followed us back to our hotel and tried to batter our door down. It turned out he thought we looked rather fetching in our tweed attire
Khovd, Mongolia
A long day yesterday, and not a lot of ground covered left us deflated. Today we made the hard decision to break the convoy and press on alone. We struck out in to the wilderness foot to the floor and made 135 miles. The 'roads' here are brutal, drive too slow and they shake the car to bits, too fast and we could end up totalling the car on a camel! Stressful stuff, but that's what the G&T is for. Spiffing!
Barnaul, Russia
BACK IN THE U.S.S.R! Well..the former soviet union. We flew through the border from Kazakhstan today, and made good time up to Barnaul, despite being bothered by the police. Checked in to a very Soviet hotel, and now we're off for a Chinese. Brilliant. @
Taldykorgan, Kazakhstan
We spent last night camped next to a giant field of Marijuana, we left sharply this morning upon realising we had stumbled in to a Kazakh drugs plantation. Luckily there didnt seem to be any 'farmers' around. The car is overheating again, the words "head gasket" have been thrown around. Sadly it's probably the case... but we limp on.
Almaty, Kazakhstan
Another six hours in the mechanic and we have new brake pads, repaired our shot wheels, solved our over-heating issues. Aggy is back on the road and topped off with high octane Kazakh petrol. We head north for Russia with "Are we there yet" and "Reckless abandon". We also Picked up some Neil Young CDs in a kazakh record store! Let the good times roll! Onwards to Mother Russia, Spiffing!
Tashkent, Uzbekistan
Arrived in tashkent in good time to tackle the border, however it was closed. Had to turn back. It is 38¤C and we are having to run the heating on full whack to stop the car overheating! So far it's been a long day...
Khorazm, Uzbekistan
Yesterday we unravelled a mystery. How 2 buy fuel in uzbekistan. The Black Market. A popular family bussiness here.
Mangystau, Kazakhstan
Dust, camels, tumbleweed and LOTS of scorpions. We've hit the desert, camping under the stars. Tomorrow we will undertake the worst roads so far, we head in to Uzbekistan, through the barren Karakalpakstan. Spirits are high, and our glasses our full. Our adventure continues.
Bayda, Kazakhstan
Now we're ready for the serious stuff. We spent 5 hours yesterday at the mechanics having our car armoured! Custom made sump and petrol guards! We are currently sat at the Russian border with 5 other rally teams waiting to take the plunge in to central asia! Tally ho!@
